Vienna City Guide
|
The capital and largest city of Austria, Vienna is inviting and
overwhelming at first glance. Vienna is famous not just for its
fascinating historical center, but also for its dynamic style, a
young city, known for its music scene with independent labels,
cult-status underground record stores, a vibrant club scene, multitudes
of street performers and for its delicious coffee. |
|
The traditional Coffeehouse is still the
place to have a nice cup of coffee, meet friends, read newspapers
or even too fall in love, so when arriving to the city you might want
to start your day with "Let's have a coffee"
One particularly
interesting thing about Viennese is that they are fascinated with the
idea of death and thanks to this the Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof)
has become a very popular place to take a walk and listen to
sentimental music (Schrammelmusik) with lyrics pertaining to death.
Funeral insurance societies (Old-fashioned Sterbevereine) provide
people several options to choose from in order to save up for a "nice"
grave and an adequate burial. Vienna even has a museum devoted to
death, coffins and mortuary science the Bestattungsmuseum, giving place for the cities morbid obsession.
Probably
the best time to visit this gorgeous city is in the summer. Sunny with
a light summer breeze, in June and July the weather is moderate while
in August it can be pretty hot, but still pleasant. From September the
weather is cooling down, and winter does get pretty nasty due to the
wind that makes our lives easier in the summer, but freezing in the
winter months. Whichever season you choose, try to enjoy your time in
Vienna to the maximum; you will have part in a memorable vacation! |
