When searching for the ultimate palace experience, Vienna is the
perfect city. What used to be the summer palace of the Habsburg family
Schloss Schönbrunn, deservers a long visit only for its gardens and zoo
(oldest in the world), offering lot of attractions, like the Privy
Garden, a Maze and Labyrinth and the Gloriette with Panorama Terrace.

Visiting the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, an
immense palace complex, is like opening a jewelry box. Used to be the
imperial residence of the Habsburg’s, today it houses the offices of
the Austrian President, the Spanish Riding School with its Lipizzaner
stallions, and several museums (Imp. Apartments, Sisi Museum, Imp.
Silver Collection and the Imperial Furniture Museum).
Besides
its magnificent castles, Vienna has lots of museums that are worthy of
a visit. The Museum of Fine Arts, one of the world's great art museums,
in a palace that's a work of art itself. Probably the most-beloved
symbol of Viennese arts is the Opera House, the most elegant place to
spend an evening enjoying some classical music. Visiting the Austrian
Museum of Contemporary Art also give you the opportunity to enjoy a
delicious coffee at the 100-year old Cafe Pruekel just across the road.
Further on the Vienna House of the Arts and the Hundertwasserhaus are
also true delights for grownups.
In search for culture, check
out the Vienna Museum District with several interesting museums, The
Music House, the Albertina Vienna’s most popular exhibition space, a
former palace, the Liechtenstein Museum, the Gallery of the Academy of
Fine Arts. When time allows you, try not to miss Vienna Museum,
including Mozart House. Also the Wagner Villa and the Otto Wagner
Museum, which give you an inside into the life of the most influential
Viennese architect.
Vienna also has its fascinating cathedral’s
and churches, Augustinian Friars' Church, St. Stephen's Cathedral , a
magnificent Gothic cathedral, the Wotruba Church, Kirche am
Steinhof, and the Old Synagogue a very interesting underground medieval
synagogue excavations.
When weather allows, take advantage of
the Haus des Meeres Aquarium Zoo, a marvelous zoo, with a rainforest
glasshouse, tiny apes, aquariums, even with sharks, and terrariums with
reptiles and venomous snakes. The Lainzer Tiergarten, in Vienna is a
beautiful natural place in the woods that used to be the Emperor's
private hunting area with the fancy "Hermes villa". In search of some
amusement, you can spend some time in the Prater (Park) taking a ride
on the famous Giant Ferris Wheel. |
