The first place everybody wishes to visit in Beijing is the breathtaking Forbidden City (the Palace Museum). It is definitely worth taking a walking tour, getting to know more about the history and culture of the Ming and Oing dynasties, enjoying the richness and splendor of the Golden era. In order to be able to enjoy its spectacular courtyards in peace, try to be there at the opening of gates, around 8.30 AM, it will be an unforgettable memory.

Stroll around in the worlds largest Square the Tiananmen Square constructed by Mao to impress; surrounded by Soviet-style monuments and government institutions, giving place to Mao's mausoleum it is probably the most outstanding place in Beijing. Even though you might have to stand in line for quite a while as the entrance is free, you will realize it is worth it once you are in the Mausoleum.  For those who love ancient Chinese architecture a stroll in Hutongs, the cities ancient alleyways will be a pure delight, as for art lover the Dashanzi Art District is really a ‘must see’.

Further on visit the Temple of Heaven, which is not only a picturesque sight, but it is circled by the greenest place in Beijing, a public park where you can relax and enjoy watching locals practicing Tai Chi. For some more nature and fun climb the Fragrant Hills, visit the amazing Beijing Botanical Gardens or stroll around in Beihai Park, where you can check out the heart of Communist China. Famous for its 18 m statue of Maitreya Buddha carved form a single piece of sandalwood, the  Yonghegong  together with the gorgeously decorated  Ox Street Mosque are both  a ‘must see’.

When it comes to museums, the most interesting ones are the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, the China Aviation Museum, and the National Museum of China taking you all one step closer to the history of China.
