Cologne transportation

Public transportation in Cologne When in Cologne you will not encounter any difficulties when it comes to the public transportation network. Cologne is provided with a good subway, tram and bus network "KVB" (Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe). Probably the fastest and most convenient way of moving around the city is by Cologne’s Subway/Tram system, or the U-Bahn, a mixture of these two.
You will find maps at every station that will help you with orientation, as well as vending-machines or ticket-offices where you can by the type of ticket you need. It is best to buy a day or three day Pass, valid for subway, tram and regional trains, known as the S-Bahn.

Bike
A very attractive way of traveling in the city is by just picking up a bike. The same as in Berlin or Frankfurt, the Call a Bike system works here as well. Just sign up, pay with your credit card and feel free to pick up or drop off one of the silver-red bikes anywhere in the city. The center is not so big and it is truly enjoyable to just stroll around or cycle for that matter, as all landmarks are within easy reach of one another.

Holiday discount
If you have a valid student identification together with a personal ID, you will be able to save lot of money when it comes to traveling .Keep in mind that the German Rail Company offers a 'Schoene Ferien Ticket' during holidays allowing you to pay less for a ticket or even to travel free throughout Northrhein Westphalia on local buses, trams, U-Bahn and some trains.
