Hamburg transportation
|
Getting around in Hamburg is truly a piece of cake thanks to the highly
developed public transportation system. Buses connect every corner of
the city in daytime, going on a regular base , while at night the "
Nachtbus" ( night bus) service takes over making sure everybody
reaches its destination. The system is easy to figure out as all busses
arrive and depart from the"Rathausmarkt". |

Public transport: train and subway Apart
from buses, you can make use of the Hamburg Intracity train service,
operating from 5 AM until 1 AM on weekdays and all night long on
weekends in the central city. Probably the fastest and most comfortable
way of moving around the city is by using on of the six S-Bahn
(suburban) lines or the three U-Bahn (subway) lines, which connect
almost every point of the city. There is one important thing you should
keep in mind and that is that train doors do not open automatically,
you have to press a button or pull a handle in order to board or get
out.
Public transport: bus In some bus stops in
Hamburg, but well in all rail stations, you can find vending machines
that will give you the ticket you need for your ride. You can choose
from short distance, single ride, group and day tickets. In case you
hop on a bus just like that, there is no worry as the bus driver can
always sell you a ticket. If planning on staying several days or weeks
in the city, it is best to go to the Hauptbanhof, with a passport photo
and get yourself a pass at the information office. If you wish to
combine traveling with sightseeing you can also buy a Hamburg
Card. If you wish to travel in a comfortable way, try to avoid
rush hours, before 9 AM and between 4 -7 PM and also keep in mind that
in these hours you are not allowed to take bikes on the subway.
Public transport: ferry Furthermore
you can choose to travel with one of the six ferries, operating in the
Hamburg harbor and along the River Elbe as part of the regular public
transport system. We would especially recommend a ride with the 62
ferry line if you wish to enjoy the amazing scenery of Hamburg. For a
more convenient though expensive way of traveling, you can
always catch a cab, easy to recognize licensed taxis, either by
there ivory white color, or by the yellow and black "Taxi" sign on the
roof. |
