Hamburg sightseeing

Hamburg is easy and fun to discover as it can be divided into several
regions allowing one to make a choice. When it comes to museums,
some of the most prominent ones are the Spice Museum, it’s one of a
kind, the Deichtorhallen, known to be one of the best exhibition
galleries worldwide, the Kunsthalle Glockengießerwall with an
impressing collection of paintings from the 19th century and the
Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, a leading centre for art, applied art and

Hamburg attractions: architecture Check
out the surroundings of the Mönckebergstraße, where apart from a
great amount of stores you will find the St. Jacobi and
St. Petri churches that are worth having a look. Visit the 20th century
Hubelhaus, see the remains of the Bishpos Tower, located under the
building of "Radio Hamburg", and take a look at the remains of
the 9th century Hammaburg fortress.
The Mönckebergstraße
leads directly to Hamburg's fascinating neo-Renaissance Rathaus( City
Hall) with an impressive 112 meter tower. Check out the House of
Commerce ("Börse"), walk around the Rathaushof, admiring its beautiful
‘Hygieia-Brunnen’ fountain.
Religious tourist attractions Hamburg
offers you a great variety of beautiful churches, such as the
Christianskirche, the Dreieinigkeitskirche, the St.-Marien-Dom, the
Flussschifferkirche and Hamburg’s well-known landmark the St.Michaelis
church. Do not leave out the superb Synagogue and the Imam-Ali-Mosque.
Moving on, around the ruins of St. Nikolai church, converted into
a memorial against war, there are interesting things to discover, such
as the house of the Patriotische Gesellschaft, the Trostbrücke Bridge
with the statues of Graf Adolf III and Bishop Ansgar. Following the
water you will end up at the remains of the cities oldest bridge, the
Zollenbrücke, dating back to the 17th century.
As
a follow up walk around the wonderful Harbor Area, visiting the
warehouse district, drop by the "Hamburg Dungeon" and watch
the impressive presentation of the "dark times" of the city. Do not
leave out the "Miniatur-Wunderland", the world largest model
railway layout. For some fun take a walk in one of the world’s most
famous red district areas, the Sankt Pauli and get to experience
the vivid, trendy center of Hamburg’s gay scene, the Sankt Georg.
Easy attractions: gardens and zoo's After
breathing in all the culture and history Hamburg has to offer, a little
relaxation is well earned. Take a stroll in the Alter Botanischer
Garten, wonder around the Planten und Bloomen, check out the Hagenbecks
Tierpark ( Zoo). In search for something out of the normal just ramble
in the world’s biggest graveyard the Ohlsdorfer Friedhof. |
