Budapest attractions by Favio Bolano Finding things to do and see in Budapest is not really a hard task. This magnificent city offers a wide range of attractions to choose from, starting with monument, museums, amazing buildings, parks and thermal baths among other. Budapest is the perfect city for an unforgettable vacation!
One of the main attraction points of the city is Castle Hill, the oldest part of the city. Here one can easily fill a whole day, by visiting the Royal Palace, which houses today three museums, the National Gallery and the National Széchényi Library. Take a look at the statue of Hussar General András Hadik, a favorite of Empress Maria Theresia; check out the 13th century Franciscan church, the Maria Magdalene Tower.

At the northern end of Castle Hill you can find the Vienna Gate, the place were the  non-Jewish merchants market was located in the Middle Ages, furthermore, have a look at the Turul  bird sculpture, a mythical bird that is an important symbol in the history of Hungarians. One can not possibly leave out a visit to the amazingly beautiful “Mátyás templom” (Matthias Church). The Fisherman’s Bastion (Halászbástya), built 1890-1905, and got its name from the medieval fish market and from the Guild of Fishermen who defended this part of the castle throughout many wars in history.

Crossing the Danube on one of the beautiful bridges of Budapest you will fins yourself in Pest. Probably the most eye-catching attraction is the Hungarian National Parliament, designed by Imre Steindl, is the largest building in Europe. Via an organized tour you can get inside and take a look at the Hungarian crown jewels exhibited under the cupola. Furthermore pay a visit to the fascinating St.Stephen Cathedral (the Basilica) and the Great Synagogue and Jewish museum, unique due to its size and onion -shaped domes.

Take a long walk down on the Andrássy  Avenue, admire the State Opera House, go in to the House of Terror, a bit depressive museum about Nazi and communist terror. At the end of the Avenue you will find yourself in the City Park; starting with the Heroes Square, enjoy the exhibitions of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Műcsarnok, take a stroll in the Vajdahunyad Castle and if you wish to relax even more, go for a bath in the Széchényi Bath or visit the Zoo, both within 5 minutes from the Square.
