Venice sightseeing

Venice attractions by Favio Bolano Absolutely gorgeous, Venice awaits its visitors offering them great variety of monuments, museums, churches and romantic scenery to choose from. No matter where you start your city tour; Venice will grow on you in no time, leaving you speechless in front of all its beauties. Consider  getting a Church Pass or a Museum Card, or all in all a Combined Pass (incl. transportation), these will save you some money!
One of the many highlights in Venice, is the Basilica di San Marco, located on Piazza San Marco. Note that you must be appropriately dressed in order to be allowed in, and also that taking photos  is forbidden. Although most famous churches have an entry fee, San Marco is free, you will only have to pay for the museum and the altar treasury.  For an amazing panoramic view go up to the top of the  Clock Tower at Saint Marc Square, but do avoid round hours, as the bells  clang exceptionally loud up there.

Moving on, pay a visit to the amazing San Giovanni e Paolo Dominican church, close to the Scuola San Marco with is gorgeous Renaissance façade and the equestrian statue of captain Colleone. Furthermore, Santa Maria Gloriosa de Frari, a huge friary church and the Santa Maria dei Miracoli, a perfect jewel box , are both worthy of your time and attention. The masterpiece of Tintoretto, Scuola Grande di San Roco is a fine example of Manierist art in its best.

In all major tourist destination there are some "must see’s" and Venice is not an exception! The Correr Museum, with an attention-grabbing collection of globes, an archeological museum of Roman antiques and an impressive picture gallery  is a good place to start. The remarkable Doge’s Palace, where you can visit  Casanova’s jail and have a look at  the 500 years old astonishing roof structure, among other things.

Worthy of a note are La Fenice Theater, the Jewish Ghetto of Venice and the Jewish Museum; note that the city also houses five synagogues. Mocenigo Palace, interesting for its clothes collection, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, houses a collection of modern art, including  a sculpture garden and works by Picasso, Kandinsky, Tanguy, Duchamp, Pollock, Dali, and Mondrian. For art lovers it  is a pure delight to visit Ca' Pesaro a superb palace housing the gallery of modern art, the Marco Pollo Museum, as well as the Galleria dell’Accademia di Venezia, one of Italy’s best art museum.
