If you decide to take a bike, remember to
properly lock your bike, otherwise for sure you will not find it
back! The center of Amsterdam is completely flat so just get
lost in the narrow street, stroll along the canals, and give yourself
the opportunity to discover this remarkable city on foot. If time is
pressuring and you want to move around faster in a comfortable way,
than use public transport! There is a 4 line metro that is pretty
reliable and fast, as well as tones of bus and tram routs that will
take you to every corner of the city. Tickets can be purchased when
getting on a bus or tram; however you can save some money if you buy a
strippenkaart in advance, from any post office, vending machines in the
metro and train stations, tobacconists or supermarkets. They are valid
on all types of public transport vehicle, as well as on NS trains and
trains running to Schiphol airport! Remember always to stamp your
strippenkaart! If you are unsure about how many strips you need for
your journey, just ask around! A strippenkaart of 15 strips costs €6.90. Visiting
Amsterdam by car can cause some headaches! Getting stressed from heavy
traffic, tones of cyclists and pedestrians and lack of (expensive)
parking space are just some of the problems that might come up. If you
do do come by car, park in a garage, and travel further by public
transport in order to enjoy your vacation or day trip!
Another option is to get a one Day
Pass for €7 or a 2, 3, 4 day pass for €11.50 € respectively 14.50/3 days and
€17.50. Don't forget to stamp it before your first journey. Plentiful but
probably the most expensive way of getting around the city are with Taxi. Be sure to use
legal cabs! Hailing them on the streets will definitely work, as well as calling
them! The initial fare it €7, 50 fortunately it includes the first two
kilometers of travel and there is no charge for waiting in traffic. An
alternative way is the Tuk-Tuks, a Thai-influenced transportation service using
three-wheeled, open-air power-driven vehicles. For sure a unique experience!
