Porto attractions by Favio Bolano Discovering the mysteries of Porto can turn out to be a real adventure, and thanks to the beautiful scenery, it will surely be an unforgettable vacation. The best place to begin your tour is the Ribeira, the part of the city that lies close to the river, the place that houses several monuments and sites that are part of the World Heritage Area. 
Some of the most prominent places that one must definitely visit include the Oporto Cathedral, the gothic Igreja de São Francisco,  the ruins of the 15th century city wall and houses,  as well as the churches of St. Francis and St. Claire  for their amazing baroque style interior. Moving on drop by  the Episcopal Palace of Porto, the fascinating Stock Exchange Palace where you will be able to enjoy on of the most fascinating Arab room in the whole country; the Hospital of Saint Anthony, walk around the Liberdade Square and the Avenida dos Aliados and enjoy the amazing  Neoclassical architecture, with a touch of Romanticism.

Located in the heart of the city center, the Mercado do Bolhão, is the perfect place to get a feel of Porto. This traditional market, where you can taste a little bit of Portugal, is the starting point to your tour to the Aliados and the City Hall, located close by. Walk on one of the cities famous bridges, connecting Porto to Gaia over the Douro River, from where you will have a breathtaking view of the river and its two banks especially at sunset.

A mixture of architecture, literature and a delicious coffee, near Praça dos Leões, Livraria Lello, is the perfect place for all this and more. This old Bookshop was voted one of the most fascinating bookstores in Europe thanks to is beautiful interior and amazing atmosphere. For more amazing places in Porto, just stroll around the tile-adorned São Bento Train Station.

Further, on make sure you have time for a nice visit to the world famous Modern Art Museum at Serralves, drop by the Photography Museum, or just hang out at the Museu Romantico. Be sure to include into your itinerary the Casa da Música in the Boavista area, from where you can also access the stunning ocean front drive, known as "Foz", for the most amazing views. In search of some relaxation in Porto? Stop by at the "Palácio de Cristal" located in Pavilhão Rosa Mota, a pavilion with fascinating gardens or combine nature with art by visiting the Fundação de Serralves, a contemporary Art Gallery with an amazingly beautiful garden.
