Barcelona transportation
|
One of the easiest
ways of getting around the city is by public transport, though if you
really want to enjoy Barcelona, than you can go by bicycle or just
walking. The Bus Turístic links all of the Barcelona tourist sites you
could possibly want to visit. You can buy tickets valid for one day
(€20) or two consecutive days (€26). |

Barcelona
currently has 6 metro lines, covering a large area of the city, so the
metro can take you to almost every place. Stations are marked
<M> on most maps; every station has a detailed scheme of
exits to the city. One-journey tickets cost €1.50, so it’s advisable to
buy a multiperson 10-ride ticket for €7.20 (called a T-10) or a
personal 50-ride monthly ticket for €27.55, also valid on the buses and
trams.
Pay attention to the fact that sometimes to get from one line to
another, or to another metro type, you need to exit and then enter
through a new pay-gate. An unusual fact is that all cars have
air-conditioning and there are large screens for video advertising
between lanes.
The Barcelona Card features unlimited free travel on public transport
and free admission and discounts at around 100 visitor attractions. The
card is available for purchase for periods of between 2(€24) and 5 days
for a 5day card (€34).
If you want to have a taste of how it was in the old days, take a trip
with the Tramvia Blau, an old tram (beginning of the 20th century)
connecting Av. Tibidabo metro station and Funicular station at the foot
of Tibidabo. Costs: 3.10 Euro for two-way trip.
A different and original way to discover Barcelona is by bicycle.
Thanks to the integrated lanes, one can cycle through the parks and the
city. There are many places that rent a bike or organize tours; some of
them are Barceloneta Bikes, Biking in Barcelona backed by Biciclot, and
Fat Tire Bike Tours. You can either rent a bike from them or take one
of their tours.
If you want to visit this beautiful city by car, having a driving map
is essential, plan your route before you set off and keep in mind that
parking is expensive in the city. It mainly makes sense if you want to
spend a lot of time outside the city borders. Otherwise, for purely
in-city transportation, consider renting a scooter.
