Stockholm sightseeing

Stockholm attractions by Favio Bolano There is one thing you will surly not miss in Stockholm, and those are dazzling tourist attractions. A great variety, starting with the remarkable architecture of the City Hall to the breathtaking beauties of the archipelago, Stockholm is a promising city.
The archipelago, stretching on approximately 80Km, with 24 000 islands, offering a large diversity of nature, from flourishing green to bare cliffs, some have restaurants, hostels, stores while others are totally deserted, making it possible for one to go on a real adventure . In search of a unique experience, spend a day in Gamla Stan, the picturesque historical heart of Stockholm, wondering around its small streets, houses and the  magnificent church Riddarholmskyrkan, the only remaining abbey, all dating back to medieval times.

In order to get better acquainted with the traditions of the Swedish monarchy, pay a visit to The Royal Palace and the royal family residence, Drottningholm Palace, magnificent buildings with breathtaking gardens that will offer you an unforgettable time.

In Stockholm one can choose from a great variety of museums and art galleries. Truly a unique experience is the Vasa museum with its magnificent 17th century warship and the Skansen, the first open air museum in the world, featuring over 150 historic buildings, a Zoo and an Aquarium. The city has nearly 70 museums, all different and special in their own ways, including a Dance Museum, an Army Museum, and a Butterfly Museum.

The Museum of History awaits its visitors with a remarkable Viking exhibition, the National Museum, located in a superb 19th century building, has a vast collection of classical art among many others. Furthermore, the Museum of Modern Art[edit], Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde, and the Natalia Goldin Gallery are just a few places that have amazing art collections and exhibitions.

Apart from the above mentioned, the city also has a number of beautiful churches, the Stockholm Cathedral, containing two famous artworks, the 15th century wooden statue of Saint George and a copy of the oldest known image of Stockholm("The Sun Dog Painting"). The Katarina kyrka, and the Bromma kyrka, which is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the city, are both highly recommended.

Among further attractions one can pay a visit to The Stockholm Public Library, with an amazing architecture, the Stockholm Globe Arena, claiming to be the world’s largest spherical building, the Gröna Lund, Stockholm's only amusement park, and the Millesgården displaying a great number of works by famous sculptor Carl Milles in his former residence.
